From Bonnets to Berets

some hats, the one on the right was a WIP a few weeks ago!

We've mentioned From Bonnets to Berets several times and you now have a chance to see all the hats knitted for this wonderful exhibition at the Pittenween Arts Festival (6th - 14th August).

From Bonnets to Berets is a knitting project organised by Anne-Marijke and the Pittenweem knitters with contributions from far and wide. This is the third year there has been a knitting display at Pittenweem Arts Festival, last year it was tea cosies and the year before that it was fishes.

Anne-Marijke says, "The concept for this year’s knitting project has evolved directly from last year’s. Instead of keeping teapots warm, we decided we could do the same for our heads!  Knitted hats are not only practical, but these days they are also a real fashion statement!"

"Most knitters supporting this project come from the local community.  However, many have talked enthusiastically to friends and family, resulting in a much extended group reaching as far as America and Australia!  The hats that make up the display are all individual, reflecting each knitter’s creativity."

"Thanks to the generous support of the public last year, the sale of tea cosies raised over £2,400 for Macmillan Nurses, which topped the amount of the previous year when the knitted fish auction raised £1,700 for the RNLI".

All the hats are for sale and the proceeds will support 3 organisations -Community First Responders, East Neuk Emergency Trust and the Pittenweem Arts Festival.

If you want to come along and see the finished exhibit and buy one you can find it at Venue 76 (Church Hall kitchen)

We would highly recommend making a visit - to support worthy causes and also to see the variety of hats on display.  Not just the colours, style and yarns but the variety of construction techniques is amazing!
