Knit A Long - Sheep Carousel

We're planning a Knit A Long for Kate Davies Sheep Carousel - a tea cosy packed with techniques!

The pattern description is... "This jolly tea cosy features a carousel of Shetland sheep and offers a small sampler of many of my favourite hand-knitting techniques: stranded colourwork, steeks, vikkel braids, corrugated ribbing, i-cord and centred double decreases. Practice on your teapot before tryingthese things out on a sweater!"

There are alot of techniques in this little item... some (if not most) Karen and I have never done! We figured there must be more knitters like us and would like to invite you all to join in as we learn about vikkels and centred double decreases and cutting up our knitting... eek!

We'll be casting on the second week in September and we'll write about our progress here on the website and on Facebook (and Twitter if we remember to tweet!). We'll also start a topic in our Ravelry group which you can contribute to as well..

If you'd like to join in simply let us know how you're getting on via the shop, website, Facebook or Ravelry. We don't have a timetable for this, just knit at your own pace.

We'd love to see photos (vikkel braid tangles as well as steeking successes!)

We'll be posting photos and links to tutorials too; if you find anything helpful or need advice let us and the other participants know and we'll try and help each other out... a bit of support group... you don't need to come into the shop - you can join in virtually.

The tea cosy requires the following...

Jamieson & Smith “Shetland Supreme Jumper Weight” (100% Shetland Wool Undyed; 172m/ 188yds/50g balls) 1 ball Moorit (2004), 1 ball White (2001).
3mm circular needles, 40cm (16”) long (or size to get gauge).
3mm dpns or long (80-100cm/ 30-40”) circular needle for working crown top & openings.
3.5mm circular needles, 40cm (16”) long, for working bottom edging.
Stitch markers of two types, a and b.
Waste (sock) yarn in contrasting colour.
3mm (UK 11/US C/2-D/3) Crochet hook.
Tapestry needle.
(and a teapot!)

You could use up your 4ply odds and ends with this pattern but we're going to be using our Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift, which comes in 25g balls (you still only need 1 ball of each colour - we checked with Kate!).
