Nightshift wrap in the shop!

New shop sample in West Yorkshire Spinners Croft yarn.

This aran thickness yarn comes in Tweed (multi coloured tweedy effect) and Colours (a solid colour).

It's 100% shetland wool. You can see the shades here and here!

The pattern is Nightshift by Andrea Mowry and you can buy it on Ravelry (and in the shop through Ravelry).

It's a large triangle shaped shawl - given the heavyweight yarn and the slip stitch effect this is a chunky shawl but with lots of drape.

You can see our notes on our Ravelry project page - including yarn usage and colour combos.  The pattern is a great stash buster and Andrea provides a 'recipe' for you to make up your own colour combos.

Alpaca Classic Shawl

This stunning shawl is knitted in the new Rowan Alpaca Classic, a lightweight blend of Alpaca and Cotton.  You can see the shades we have here plus turquoise and the bright pink used in the shawl.

It's a free pattern, available in the shop.  It's based on our laceweight and DK shawl and has a long shallow crescent shape - scarf like!

It's incredibly lightweight and floaty and versatile...

Cotton Eyelet in Zauberball Cotton

This is a free shop pattern based on our very popular eyelet shawl.

This one uses our new Zauberball Cotton.

It's an 100% organic cotton 4ply with a striking gradient effect.

One ball = one shawl.

Free pattern and 6 shades of yarn in the shop!

BUT!  you could used any other 4ply... about 400m will give you a similar size.  You could use the traditional Zauberball or Crazy Zauberball (the 75% wool, 25% nylon one) for another colourful affect or how about 2 hanks of Socks Yeah 4ply for a one colour version?

I quite fancy doing a heavy weight version too!

This sample uses Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply Shoreline which has 365m per 100g.  An equivalent amount in another 4ply will give you a similar size.

How about a Zauberball for stripes?

Or you could use a thinner or thicker yarn.

The shawl is worked side to side.  So you work it, increasing to the depth you want (or when you've used 50% of your yarn) then you decrease back down to a few stitches.

This means... you can use a straight needle!  So it's a great pattern for those that dislike circular needles but like lace edge shawls.

new shop sample - Rialto Lace shawl

Using less than 2 balls of Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace this triangle shawl is stunning!

This is a written pattern, there is no chart, however there is regular increasing, a consistent 16 stitch repeat across the row and a simple purl row on the wrong side... all of which make it a little bit 'easier'.

I've written up my notes on the Ravelry project page - with tips on using stitch markers to keep track of the stitch count and the pattern.

Simple Laceweight Shawl - new shop sample!

A new shop sample in the fabulous Gleem Lace!

Gleem is a 55% BFL and 45% Silk blend laceweight and it comes in gorgeous semi-solid shades.

The shawl is a large elongated semi circle with an easy eyelet border.  This is a good next steps project for those looking to tackle a larger laceweight project and it features a slightly trickier border than our Fine Super Eyelet.

The fabric is lightweight and shawl shape is versatile...

Fine Super Eyelet in Socks Yeah!

Our Super Eyelet shawl is one of our most popular patterns in the shop and on Ravelry.

It uses a DK yarn.  The shop sample uses Louisa Harding's Noema, a cotton/acrylic blend.

We've now tweaked the pattern (added some more garter stitch) and created a much lighter shawl that's a bit smaller.

This one has a garter stitch edge and garter stitch ridges amongst the eyelets (simply because I didn't feel like purling).  But it is still a good beginners pattern.

The yarn is Socks Yeah!

And yeah, I can't get enough of it!  See our recent new shop samples - Solace and Stripy Socks.

The yarn is very soft and is perfect to wear around your neck!  

Our Fine Super Eyelet shawl only uses a 50g  hank.  The shawl is small (40x115cm) but if you'd prefer it bigger simply use more yarn and add more repeats.

And because it comes in 50g hanks you can mix and match your colours easily.  And what a choice you have!

I'm already planning some more stripy things... what about a Fine Super Stripy Shawl...?

a Scrumptious Lace Heirloom

Janette Walls popped into the shop with a stunning lace shawl knitted for her grandchild.  Using Scrumptious Lace and an old family pattern she made a traditional circular shawl.

Tricky to photograph and with no baby to wrap in it, we did our best on our shop dummy...

Scrumptious Lace is a gorgeous wool silk blend available in 100g/1000m hanks and a range of stunning shades!  1 hank makes a generous shawl!

Artesano Definition - Flora Shawlette

Flora Crescent Shawlette uses just 1 hank of Artesano Definition Sock Yarn.

This shawl is started at the bottom and you cast on nearly 300 stitches.  But don't let that put you off!  After the lace edge its easy peasy garter stitch and short rows to shape the shawl.

You could make the lace edge easier by using stitch markers to separate each pattern repeat.  So, if you need to, you can quickly double check each section before moving on to the next.

This shawl would be great as a next step lace project - for those looking for a more challenging pattern.  With lace pattern on both sides you need to pay attention to your yarn overs!  It also features left and right leaning decreases - an important part of the design.

The pattern is both written and charted.  The chart is very clear and makes it easy to see where you're holes and shaping sit within the design.  If you haven't given charts a go - try it with this pattern.

The pattern is featured in the Definition pattern book, which also includes garments and socks... all the patterns use just 1 or 2 hanks of this lovely wool.

Its 75% Merino and 25% Nylon (great for socks!) and has a lovely sheen and crispness!  Check out the colours...
