Coffee with CC now in the shop

You may have met CC Almon at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival or indeed the recent Spinner, Dyers and Weavers day at Letham. We loved her new book and we've now got copies in the shop!

It features 6 socks patterns and a stunning shawl.  All inspired by her love of coffee.

There are both cuff down and toe up sock patterns and short row heels in this book,

The book is £12 and we've got lots of sock yarn too!

Want to see more CC?  Check out her Ravelry page and website...

Socks Yeah! as socks...

This yarn is gorgeous!

So first we knitted a shawl using both Socks Yeah! and Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace.

Now we've got socks...

We used the basic freebie sock pattern that we have in the shop and jazzed it up with 3 colours and stripes...

The basic pattern with additional notes is available in the shop.

Lots of Socks Yeah! shades to choose from too.  And it feels really good too...

nobbly sock...

knitted in Aventica Supreme

The 3rd sock project today.  Baby ones here, Pennycress from Coop Knits Socks here.

You've seen this yarn before - Karen's cardigan - this time its nobbly texture is knitted at a  tighter  gauge into a cosy sock.

The pattern is free, and available on at Canadian Living website here.  Its easily adjustable - if you want a longer leg or ribbed leg.  Details in the pattern.

2 balls will do the small and medium sizes, you'll maybe need 3 for the larger sizes.  Sock is a sample in the shop!

We are not continuing with this yarn (we need to make space for new ones!), so don't hang about if you want to knit this sock... or indeed Karen's cardigan.

Pennycress Sock

dark shades with a stitch pattern are not easy to photo!

The 2nd of our sock projects today.  The first one was a cosy baby socks.

Pennycress from Coop Knits Socks in YarnPony Mustang.  This will be in the shop for a wee while.

(Fiona) Currently there is only one sock.  I have a cunning plan to beat 1 sock syndrome.  To have 4 or 5 sock patterns and knit one sock from each before going back to knit the second sock.  Thus removing the problem of immediately having to knit the same thing again.  Cunning or optimistic?

The Pussy Willow stocking in Regia Angora Merino fall into this scheme too.

Next up is Dunkerton Sweet by Jen Arnall-Culliford (again in YarnPony!).

baby socks

The first of several sock projects today!

A free pattern available online - Jelly Bean Baby Socks by Susan B Anderson.  Knitted in our new Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran - easy socks and an ideal last minute baby gift.  Great beginner sock project too!

Takes less than one ball... 2 balls could possibly yield 3 pairs.

a blocked sock

We showed the difference blocking a Snawpaws mitt can make.

How about with a sock?

Knitted using a free Drops pattern.

Soaked in Eucalan, then excess water gently squeezed out. And left to dry (block) on our KnitPro sock blockers.

Eucalan and 3 sizes of sock blockers available in the shop!

MAN socks

Tracy of multiple knitting fame (check out her scarf, cardigan and cardigan) has succumbed to the sock bug and knitted her first pair for her husband Graeme, using our Regia World Colors DK yarn and pattern.

Not an easy undertaking as he has quite large feet...

Graeme is in fact an honorary Mr Woolly Brew given his prowess with a paint brush and electric screw driver... we may now add modelling to his list of talents...

work it baby, work it!

(so funny looking back at photos of the shop refurbishment!)

solid socks

Our range of Lang Jawoll Color and Zauberballs have been very popular but when you want to do a stitch pattern... maybe some cables or lace... you need a solid or semi solid yarn to show off all your stitch manipulation.

This pink sock uses Lang Jawoll Superwash, which we stock in a range of 6 bright colours as well as black, white and grey.

The pattern is called Englewood by Inge Sandholt and it is a simple 6 row lace repeat.  A great project for a beginner lace sock project.

You can buy the pattern through Ravelry and the yarn in the shop!

Remember if you need any help with Ravelry check out our guide here.  And our list of sock tutorials here!
